Van pushed the door open and waited for Carly to enter before shutting and locking the door, gently guiding her to a seat. "Sit..." She murmured softly, settling nearby as she watched Carly closely.
"What exactly did you do to wind up in that jail?" She asked softly, lightly questioning.

Carly looked away, not comfortable talking about her problems with people she considered strangers.
"Alot." Was all she said.

"Carly..." Van spoke softly. "I won't hurt you." She paused, then spoke on. "I won't let anything happen to you... but, I need to know what exactly happened, so I can keep you safe... otherwise there's not much I can do." She paused again, reading Carly's next question in her eyes.
"Before you ask why I'm helping you... it's because I can tell you didn't deserve the beating you got, you didn't deserve to be in that jail... and frankly, you're the most precious thing I can ever imagine seeing, the most amazing woman I've ever met..."

Carly paused, trying hard not to look stunned. She turned to face Van, begining to belive and trust that she wasn't going to hurt her.
She took a breath. "Fraud...thats why I was in there."

"They really think you did that?" Van held back her shock, barely, realising exactly why the woman had been beaten. "I'm guessing someone picked up on something you don't tend to tell people..." She spoke gently. "Something... sexual?" She asked quietly. "They wanted to hurt you... a lot more than they managed... didn't they?"
She kept eye-contact with Carly, letting the compassion and gentle caring show through. "No-one deserves that... definately not you."

Carly's eyes widened. How did this woman know about her. She had never told anybody about 'that' and hadn't intended too. But somehow the others at the jail had found out anyway.
"They wanted to hurt you... a lot more than they managed... didn't they?"
The words echoed in Carly's head, as the beating flashed in her mind. She couldn't help it, she began to cry.

Van paused for about a second before moving to gently gather the crying woman closer, gently stroking her back, kissing her hair softly. "Shhh, it's okay.... I'm here now... I'm here." She could tell from the woman's reaction she was right... which just made her all the more determined to help Carly any way she could. "You're safe now... I'm here."

Carly nodded, tears running down her face. She knew it was true. She was safe here. That was something she didn't feel often; safe. "Thank you." She murmured.

"It's okay." Van murmured again softly, gently kissing the woman's cheek. She stood slowly, drawing Carly with her. "Let's get you to bed... you're exhausted." She could tell, there were a few light rings around Carly's eyes and she was shivering a little. Van paused, picking her up carefully. "You need some sleep..."

Sleep wasn't something Carly did often. She had to stay awake to keep herself alive. But somehow she didn't think that was nessisarry here. She closed her eyes, drifting off.

Van smiled softly, settling her into the bed. She rarely let people into her bedroom, but Carly needed her.... so much. She settled to watch the woman sleep, gently stroking her cheek. "I hope you feel safe here."

Carly slept for about an hour before the nightmares began. She tossed from one side to the other, moaning and struggling. She screamed, shooting upright. She couldn't see where she was in the dark room and she began to panic.

"Easy... easy Carly, it's okay." Van shifted to settle back at Carly's side, gently stroking her hair from her face, tenderly caressing her cheek. "It's okay... I'm here..." She shifted to gently push Carly back into a laying position, shifting around the bed to slip in beside her, rolling to wrap her arms tight around Carly's waist, pulling her closer, resting Carly's head against her shoulder, curling tight around her. "Try to sleep now... I won't let anything happen to you." She'd used this trick with younger patients and now she hoped it would work for Carly. She gently pressed a kiss to Carly's forehead, gently rocking her.

This worked for a little while, but Carly was soon back in the same nightmare, screaming in her sleep.

"Shhh." Van murmured softly, thinking hard before settling into a quiet murmur, settling on a song as she waited for Carly to calm.
"Open her eyes Cause her to fall in love with me Help me to speak Bless me with words she will feel Oh let it rain Droplets of sunshine in her life Give her the world But let it be me she longs to hold
I can't wait I won't wait 'Cause tomorrow's too late And I need her right now in my life
All that I'm praying for Is my voice finds her like a lullaby Sings her to sleep She'll wake with me
Rewind the days To when she first laid eyes on Ignite the fire Let it burn uncontrollably Oh I'm in love I've never felt this way before Make her feel the same And I will ask of you no more
I can't wait I won't wait 'Cause tomorrow's too late And I need her right now in my life
[Chorus:] All that I'm praying for Is my love finds her like a lullaby Finds her in the night Sings her to sleep All that I'm hoping for Is my voice finds her like a lullaby Sings her to sleep She'll wake with me
This is my prayer I've no shame to declare that I'm praying for her (Please wake with me) I laid down a love song Made up this melody Oh let this lullaby Cry out and catch her
[Chorus x2]
She's all I want She'll wake with me..."
